River Shannon & Lough Derg

Lough Derg is the third largest fresh water lake in Ireland, the lower and biggest lake (13,000 hectares) on the River Shannon and is bordered by 3 counties, Galway, Clare and Tipperary. The Shannon is itself the longest river in the UK and Ireland. Lough Dereg is about 40km in length, and 10km in width at its widest point, but normally about 2 to 3km wide, providing a varied race area, especially where GSC is located. Garrykennedy is 2/3rds of the way down its eastern Tipperary shore.
